Munich Airport with Infopark CMS and WebCRM

With 27,400 employees and about 34.5 million passengers per year, the Munich Airport is Germany's second largest airport.

Both the intranet as well as the Internet site with its numerous sub-sites are merged into a uniformed layout with the aid of the Infopark CMS. In addition, info pillars with touchscreen applications throughout the airport were implemented with the system.

This contributed, amongst other things, to the Munich Airport wining the "World Airport Award" for the best airport in Europe four times in a row.

The Munich Airport, with about 35 million passengers a year, is Germany's second largest airport. In 2006 it was awarded the "World's Best Airport Award" as the best airport in Europe for the second time in a row.

Three major CMS projects 

To date the FMG has realized three major projects with solutions from Infopark:
  • Group Internet site for the Munich Airport and its subsidiaries
  • Intranet: “DELFIN" – The electronic airport information network
  • Info-kiosks in the "Visitors' Park", the airport's visitor center with the airport exhibition and much more 

All CMS projects are connected closely with one another, i.e. the content from a single data pool can be published in various media. The information is compiled only once by the 200 decentralized editors of the departments and forwarded via the workflow to the main editorial staff. Here, the quality assurance is completed, copy and image editing and the final release of the content is performed.

The "DELFIN" intranet

The “DELFIN" intranet is a powerful information and communication portal for the FMG staff and the associated companies and is very popular, with up to 100,000 viewings each month. "It scores highly especially with its attractive and contemporary design, its user-friendliness and it scope of basic functionalities," says Gerda Kettl, Head of Online Media, Flughafen München GmbH.

That is the opinion of the Deutsche Public Relations Gesellschaft (DPRG) as well. The intranet, designed by the Oestreicher + Wagner agency and realized with the Infoparks CMS, was awarded the inkom Grand Prix media prize in 2011. The prize is awarded to employee magazines and newspapers in Germany and in German-speaking countries.

For “DELFIN", a connection to the SAP R/3 system was realized. The content is periodically exported, documents are then enhanced with design, navigation and meta elements,

Integration with the Infopark CMS

The following aspects were integrated by the CMS:
  • Document management for the administration of publications, documents and attributes in a hierarchical tree structure
  • Workflow management for the forwarding of content for quality assurance
  • User and access administration for members of the editorial staff
  • Import interface for including external documents (e.g. PDF, Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Completely automatic link administration
  • Script interface for handling batch processes

Authentification by the WebCRM

The Infopark WebCRM is used to authenticate airport intranet users. It administrates the user data for the intranet and Internet and allows users to change their user data themselves. Intranet users are, along with airport employees, persons from the subsidiaries and cooperation partners.

The employees' master data are imported from the Active Directory Service. Because this system is too sensitive for external staff, the contacts are entered in the WebCRM database. From here, the users can be granted user rights. Along with changing contact data, the users can change their password. In addition, the intranet provides a self-service for subscribing and canceling internal newsletters as well as the opportunity to evaluate pages and to comment and participate in surveys.
